Ambassador Program 2009
The Ambassador Program offers a range of opportunities to gain valuable leadership skills which will enhance your career development. The Program is an excellent opportunity for you to develop confidence and attributes which will make you stand out in the future. Student Ambassadors represent and promote the Faculty of Law at a variety of future student, alumni and industry events.
Ambassador Program Activities
- Leadership skills training sessions
- Talks by eminent legal professionals and judiciary
- Forums
- Mentoring
- Social events with the Dean and other senior Law Faculty staff
- Advanced training for Senior Ambassadors.
Ambassador responsibilities
As a Student Ambassador you will be called upon to
- Share your University experiences with future students, alumni and donors
- Participate in events such as Open Day, change of preference day, Information evenings and Law School Foundation events
- Positively promote the Faculty of Law.
Students who fail to meet the attendance requirements of this Program may have their access to benefits limited or removed.
Time committments
- Activities are conducted outside class time
- You are expected to attend 75% of all events
- Ambassadors hold their position for one academic year initially, and can then stay on as a Senior Ambassador for one further academic year at the discretion of the Program Manager.
Senior Ambassadors
- Attend a more advanced Training Program
- Enjoy all the benefits of an Ambassador
- Have the responsibilities of an Ambassador
- May be asked to attend school visits to talk about their experience at the Faculty of Law.
Previous Ambassadors can apply directly to the Manager - Student Experience for the Senior Ambassadors Program once they have their Certificate of Completion.
Criteria
- Applicants should be able to promote the Faculty of Law
- Applicants should have completed at least 4 Units of study
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills suitable for working with committees and people at all levels within the University and student body
- Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills
- Demonstrated involvement with and contribution to the Faculty of Law Community or your school or local community
- Involvement in extra curricula activities such as sport, associations, theatre, dance, music, scouts, etc.

2009 Ambassador Program Activities
Semester One Activities
| An Introduction to Developing an Integrated Plan for Personal Success |
Ambassadors will be introduced to the core principles associated with the development of an integrated plan for personal success. An overview of the eight key elements of the plan will be provided with specific focus being on the values aspect of the Personal effectiveness and self awareness element and the Education and learning element, particularly as it integrates with the Career and employment element. As an introduction to this set of personal planning tools, the Ambassadors can expect to have a heightened awareness of the integrated nature of personal success, the importance about being honest in terms of a current self‐assessment, and the emergence of some key actions for success that they can focus upon for 2009.

| Developing an Integrated Plan for Personal Success Part Two |
Ambassadors will reflect on the output from An Introduction to Developing an Integrated Plan for Personal Success and update their high level plans. A specific focus will be the development of a draft Personal Vision Summary, a short statement that individually outlines their Desired future, their Personal values, Personal purpose and their focus for the following 12 month (or remainder of the calendar year) period. |

| Project Management |
Ambassadors will be taught the basic principles of project management including project management roles, phases and tools. A practical application of project management will then be conducted with the Ambassadors engaging in a process that will generate a number of projects for which project teams and project plans will be developed. The projects will be in the context of enhancing the student to student experience, the student to faculty experience and/or the faculty to community engagement. The purpose of the projects is to provide the Ambassadors with a practical, hands‐on and community enhancing experience that will benefit themselves, their careers, the Faculty and the broader community.
At the conclusion of the workshop Ambassadors will have identified a number of worthwhile projects for which draft project plans will have been developed.

Semester Two Activities
| Dialogue as a Form of Communication |
Ambassadors will be introduced to dialogue as a form of oral communication. Dialogue will be positioned along the continuum of conversational forms of communication. Core dialogue concepts and skills, particularly as they relate to balancing advocacy with inquiry will be introduced and practiced re‐enforcing the importance of action based learning. An opportunity to reflect on the learning experience will also be provided.
