Continuing Professional Development and Continuing Legal Education

Continuing Professional Development

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme, established by the Law Institute of Victoria, requires all legal practitioners holding a practising certificate in Victoria to complete 10 hours of CPD activities every CPD year (1 April to 31 March).

By enrolling in a postgraduate unit at Monash Law School that is relevent to your professional development and practice, you may be able to contribute towards your CPD requirements while also benefiting from the specialist content and expert teaching skills of Monash Law School.

Continuing Legal Education

Compulsory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) was introduced by the Victorian Bar in 2004. Barristers who hold a practising certificate issued by the bar must undertake a minimum amount of continuing legal education each year. The basis requirement is for all barristers to earn ten CLE points each year.

Monash Law School has recently received CLE accreditation for the units in our postgraduate programs. A barrister will earn three CLE points for each semester of each unit studied from the Monash Law postgraduate program.
