Professor Ian Freckelton

Ian Freckelton is a barrister practising full-time from Crockett Chambers in administrative law, criminal law and medico-legal work. Ian is currently an Adjunct Professor with Monash Law School and in the schools of Psychological Medicine and Forensic Medicine. He recently stepped down as the lawyer member of the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria and has served on a number of other tribunals. He is a Board member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Health Law and Ethics and is the Victorian President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law. He is the Editor of the Journal of Law and Medicine, the Editor-in-Chief of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law and the author of some 30 books on medical law, coronial law, mental health law, evidence law, causation, compensation law, criminal law, therapeutic jurisprudence, sentencing, and policing. His book (with David Ranson) on Death Investigation was short-listed as the Australian scholarly book of the year in 2006.
